My bad, I was thinking of the comic when

    in "The Search"

Zuko got hit point blank and walked away like it was just another rock to the face. (RIP Jet, the only one without clear plot armour)

As for the age/maturity of the show, we have to remember the odd spot the show’s audience puts the creators in.

It’s being made for children, marketed to adults, and going to be watched by a large number of very judgmental adults stuck in the past. It’s not like a normal cartoon where the parents mostly ignore it, and its also not a cartoon made for adults like Arcane.

Exploring darker themes will have to tread lightly and have comedy/brighter bits mixed in at inopportune times (Melo…) to keep a kid enganged. I honestly don’t think the network will let them get away with how dark the early ATLA episodes were (but I hope they do!).

ATLA did a great job of balancing the needs of children and adults, I hope they can pull it off again.

Ah I forgot about that. I don’t remember the comics well.

I do have faith in this, lol.

Technically, ATLA and LoK were both kids shows! I bet they can absolutely keep it light with Pavi being so young, having a child’s wonderous perspective, with implied dark stuff going on all around her. Honestly I think its an even better setup than ATLA, as the Avatar supposedly has an older mentor now (Jae) instead of the “adult crew” being a sideshow like Zuko or Tenzin. They can be the exclusive focus instead.

I have faith it’ll work out too, but also curbing my own expectations…we’re not going to get a super dark and gritty show like Arcane but I do expect more than the mindless slop many children’s cartoons have become.

That’s fine. The balance is part of the charm.

I think fans forget how ‘immature’ ATLA is on the surface, too. Like, its a lot of silly kid jokes with cartoon sound effects to go with it. Darker implications often don’t hit unless you squint and already know the lore. Seven Havens could totally hit that same tone and make leadership feel that they got a kids show.

EDIT: But yeah, I am keeping my expectations… open.
