One of the most important news in recent years in Mexican sports was the announcement of the purchase by WWE of the Mexican wrestling promoter AAA , which is the main competitor of the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and already an institution within the national wrestling industry, which was characterized in its early years by being a novel proposal with endearing wrestlers.

The announcement came during WrestleMania 41 , and a joint event between AAA and WWE wrestlers was even announced for June 7 at the KIA Forum in Inglewood, California . This acquisition undoubtedly changes the Mexican sports landscape, and it’s still unclear how extensive or drastic this change will be.

What did the AAA GM say about the sale? At the Sports Summit, Dorian Joaquín Roldán Peña, the current CEO of AAA, mentioned that it is currently very difficult to compete against other forms of entertainment and sports industries in Mexico, acknowledging that sponsorships are difficult to obtain.

He also acknowledged that soccer is the sport that generates money in the country, and that competing against Liga MX, the Mexican National Team, and the soccer industry in general is a daunting task.

How much was Triple A sold to WWE for? While figures have not been made public, several media outlets speculate that the acquisition of Triple A by TKO Group Holdings, WWE’s parent company, was worth around $50 million, a fairly low amount considering the American promoter is worth just over $1 billion.

Although the first event between the two companies is a fact, it is still unknown exactly who or what the Triple A wrestlers will be that will be part of NXT Worlds Collide, and it is also unknown which WWE-elected gladiators will enter the ring.

I’m a AAA mark, and AAA has been pretty awful of late. Hopefully this works out for both.

WWE does not have a good track record, but I hope for the fans and the wrestlers it does
