When cooking for a family with children, frozen vegetables especially have become a life saver in many situations. It’s just awesome to have different varieties of vegetables available for use on short notice without them going bad in only a few days. Additionally it’s often just as healthy to use frozen as it is fresh.
I highly recommend keeping a bag of the four or five staples that you regularly use in your freezer, just in case you want to liven up that casserole with some broccoli or spinach.
Not fruit and veg, but frozen sliced bread ftw.
Frozen peas is the GOAT! Spinach is a close second. Fancy haricots to liven up presentation comes in third.
I sprinkle frozen peas into so many things I cook
They’re awesome
Yes! I’ve really gotten into actually making use of my freezer recently. It’s also great for spices and herbs that you use less frequently.
- Fresh tumeric and ginger: just grate off what you need and pop it back.
- Chillies: freeze whole and cut up and use as needed
- Herbs: how well they freeze depends. Things like sage, thyme, curry leaves freeze really well. Basil and coriander will be very soggy when they defrost but are fine if you’re just using them in a sauce.
Thanks! I’ll definitely try freezing ginger. That’s usually one of the things I could have sworn I still had but it went bad last week, so… Yeah, definitely putting some of that in the freezer from now on.
For frozen herbs my go-to is always chives and parsley.
Frozen protein is also convenient to have on hand.
Just remember to peel your bananas before putting in freezer, it’s easier than removing frozen peel when you make the smoothy
