Hey everyone,
Just a heads-up to be extra careful out there. There are several scam websites actively trying to phish (steal) your Rust skins and potentially compromise your Steam account.
How the Scam Often Works:
- You might get added by someone you don’t know on Steam.
- They might message you asking you to “vote for their team” in a tournament, rate a skin, or join something via a link they send.
- These links often lead to fake websites that look like legitimate Steam login pages or gambling/trading sites.
- Crucially: Logging into these fake sites gives the scammers your details.
- Even friends’ accounts can be hacked and used to send these scam links, so stay cautious!
Known Scam / Phishing Sites to AVOID:
Please be extremely wary of these sites, reported to be involved in phishing activities. DO NOT log into them with your Steam details:
rustavalon.com
rusttoys.com
rusty-fabulous.com
(Note: This list might not include all scam sites – new ones pop up all the time. Treat any suspicious link asking for your Steam login with caution.)
Key Advice:
- NEVER log into Steam through links sent by people you don’t know or trust implicitly. If a site asks you to log in again when you’re already logged into the official Steam site/client, it’s almost certainly a phishing attempt.
- Be VERY suspicious of random friend requests on Steam, especially if they immediately start sending links or asking you to visit sites.
- Check URLs carefully: Scammers often use addresses that look similar to real sites but have small changes.
- Enable Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator: This adds a vital layer of security (2FA).
- Report suspicious users and sites to Steam.
Stay safe and protect your hard-earned skins!
TL;DR: Scammers are using fake sites (like those listed above) and random Steam friend requests to steal Rust skins. Don’t click suspicious links or log into unknown sites with your Steam info, even if sent by a “friend”. Enable Steam Guard.
