Like seriously, you can be the drug-addicted hobocop who’s building communism and talks to his tie or you can be someone who deserves Kim. You can’t be both.

Not every game needs romance but… Harry is NOT in the right mental/physical state to date anyone while the game is taking place. (Plus yeah Kim really does deserve better than Harry)

There is the side plot where Harry goes on a date with the fishing village woman. It doesn’t lead to anything, iirc both Harry and the woman are still hung up on their lost exes, and it’s probably the most real-feeling romance side plot in any game.

The consumer mindset on romance in games infuriates me.

The DEMAND to have a “romance” with characters in games bugs me. Let them not like my character. Or not all of them be the same.

Honestly this is something I liked in Outer Worlds. Parvati’s romance quest has you play the wing man, and it was much more entertaining than how it is usually done in RPGs (inc. other obsidian titles).

I usually don’t do romance quests because they’re very cheesy most of the time, but in parvati’s case it was a bit charming instead due to the different approach.

“Kim deserves better” is weird to me because the scenario where kim likes harry does occur if you play as detective du bois instead of tequila sunset
