I like the bit where he backflips all over the place and makes his talking points up on the spot then walks them back. Then random party members say the quite bits out loud and further undermine his backflips. Also the bit where he causes international incidents.

Back on track to the Morrison train wreck.

Dutton is quite possibly the very worst candidate that the LNP could have chosen. This election was essentially un-losable for the LNP. A slam dunk without having to lift a finger. They could just have answered every question with “do you want another 3 years of this ALP government?” and it people would vote for them.

Instead they’ve completely botched almost every single thing about it to the point where the ALP and the greens are likely going to strengthen their positions despite being one of the worst governments in recent history.

You’re not wrong. But the LNP is stuck in a difficult place. At the last election, they lost most of their less-extreme MPs to teals and Greens. And with party leaders coming from who the MPs vote for, the extreme-right faction of the LNP had a strong majority for their candidate, the extreme of the extreme right, Dutton.

I think the less extreme LNP MPs also wanted to keep their powder dry, so to speak. They never expected Albanese to be quite as fucking terrible as he has been, and also to have to lead through global economic conditions quite as bad. Their plan was to wait out the 2025 election which couldn’t be won with Dutton, and try again in 2028, probably changing leaders around 2027 or so, so they had a fresh-faced less-extreme leader. So I suspect many in the LNP were surprised that Dutton was polling quite as well as he was late last year.

And then Trump started being even more extreme than many predicted, and got away with it thanks to the hyper-partisan SCOTUS, and Dutton’s extremeness and his avowed support for Trump. And the country realised how dangerous Dutton would be, and his polling has dropped as a result, saving Albanese, and putting the less-extreme wing of the LNP’s plans potentially back on track.

the very worst candidate that the LNP could have chosen.

Talking to rank-and-file members within both ALP and LNP parties, it’s very clear that they are corrupt and end up selecting people who are clearly the wrong choice, with no connection to the people they’re supposed to represent, despite any clearly popular options. Losing un-losable elections is normal. It’s pretty sad.

despite being one of the worst governments in recent history

Having only one Prime Minister is an outstanding achievement for recent history. Fuck albo, I’m just saying recent history is garbage and the duopoly has gotta go.

You’re not wrong on that last point actually haha. Seems like 20 years since a PM didn’t get knifed in the back and actually completed a term!
