For this Special Thursday Cinema Night, first up is A Woman Is a Woman (1961), Jean-Luc Godard’s satirical French rom-com about a stripper who wants to make her boyfriend jealous, and starts romancing another man. Hilarity ensues. Notable for being the debut of Godard regular and it-girl Anna Karina. This is considered one of the Goard’s better films, and we have enjoyed some of his other works, such as Weekend (1967) and La Chinoise (1967), so let’s check it out.
After that is The Doors (1991), Oliver Stone’s take on the rise and fall of controversial 60s rocker Jim Morrison (Val Kilmer) and his eponymous band. Expect a whole lot of drug-addled mayhem as Jim’s life spirals out of control and his ego grows to galactic proportions. It is over-the-top and embellishes historical fact in Stone’s usual style, but is still generally considered pretty good; surprisingly, we have never watched any of Stone’s films before.

I have 0 interest in The Doors but Val Kilmer was fantastic in Top Secret – should I watch it for him or is this going to be absolutely nothing like that performance?
Just depends how much you want to see Val Kilmer shirtless. TBH, I don’t care for the movie or the Doors, but I’m biased. It was one of my ex’s favorite movies.
