This feels like some sort of deliberate escalation. I suspect that the Indian government knew about the attack in advance and let it happen, in order to facilitate an October 7-esque justification to further antagonize Pakistan and crack down and terrorize occupied Kashmir.

I’m not comfortable claiming that they knew about it in advance but yeah the situation is strange. According to reports a thousand tourists have been sauntering in this remote area which had no security presence. After the attacks, it took the police 45 minutes of hiking to get there.

Insights on what specifically? The main point of contention is that India believes the Pakistani state to be aiding terrorists in Kashmir. I personally think this is true in general. Can’t say for specific attack itself but its not unlikely. India started escalating against Pakistan after the attack. The potential breaking of this water treaty is a part of that. Pakistan has retaliated too. They have closed off their airspace to Indian aircrafts. I think trade relations have been halted too and all the bilateral agreements are on the chopping block.

India is probably seeing this as a good pretext to increase military presence in Kashmir. I hope there isn’t war and bloodshed. There is too much of that going around already.
