Am i the only one a bit worried about the centralization on a few general engines?
Probably not the only one, but there’s not very many of you, because there are plenty of engines. Unreal, Unity (rip), and Godot are the big general-purpose ones, for good reason: they’re modern, powerful, and most importantly easy to work with. But there’s also Source, CryEngine, Frostbite, id Tech, and many more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_game_engines
You are not. I’m still sad Croteam dropped the Serious Sam engine for Unreal on Talos 2
It will have “improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer”
Optionally, right? Or will it not run on my notebook anymore?
It’s Unreal Engine 5, so you have the choice between bad performance or blurry graphics and noisy shadows.
