We already have State IDs? They work everywhere because we set up state-to-state agreements?? We already carry them all the time because of driving and drinking and flying???

    Am I missing something here???

Idk, I don’t carry my wallet with me if I’m just going for a walk/bike ride. And unless you’re buying alcohol, you can get away with having just your phone to handle purchases and possibly even public transport fares. Although, given the current state of things, I should probably be carrying around my passport and my birth certificate in case ICE rolls up on me while I’m admiring some hydrangeas

No, the US has drivers licenses as the de facto id. It was not intended to be an ID because it was only meant to say that you can drive a car. Then the people don’t drive a car, don’t have a driver’s license. In many states, the driver’s license was very insecure and easy to make fraudulent licenses. This is why the US is trying to do the “real id” system since 2005, but the system is still not completed. Very car-brained country. Social Security Number was also not intended to be an ID, which is why it is so insecure.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_identity_card_policies_by_country

There’s a map on this page which shows many countries around the world have citizen ID cards.

The US has no real national id system because politicians want for it to be hard for working people to file various paperwork. It’s made tedious on purpose. It would be better if working people can more easily have an ID card. Being forced to show that ID card on demand though, is not very good.

I couldn’t get an ID for awhile because the state wanted two qualifying pieces of mail but literally all my utilities did paperless billing. My internet provider literally had no option for paper billing. I also couldn’t get health insurance for the same reason. I also HAD to unlock my credit so the electric company could validate my identity which means I had to mail the credit card company a letter. Then the DMV fined me or not registering my vehicle on time.

This happy-go-lucky fascist bootlicker likes to play dumb as if he doesn’t know what he’s advocating for

What, I’m just innocently coming up with these totally new ideas that have no precedent in history, I’m just a free thinking columnist, it’s not like I’m blasting neo-nazi propaganda

    Disgusting little crypto-nazi weasel

Capt. Vasili Borodin: I will live in Montana. And I will marry a round American woman and raise rabbits, and she will cook them for me. And I will have a pickup truck… maybe even a “recreational vehicle.” And drive from state to state. Do they let you do that?

    Captain Ramius: I suppose.

    Capt. Vasili Borodin: No papers?

Captain Ramius: No papers, state to state.

This is from a movie made at the end of the Cold War, meant to highlight the freedom Americans have versus the lack of freedom the Soviets had.

“Show your freedom papers or a travel pass written by your master, slave.” Let’s return to 1850, only this time everyone can be harassed by slave patrols. Travel will be a privilege not a right. No 4th amendment rights for anyone.
