This is an area of fandom I know that I am out of touch with (apologies !vocaloid@ani.social). However, I am glad to see that things like this are managing to find an audience outside Japan. For example, there was a good while where I thought Hatsune Miku was just a character that was created for anime figures and that was it.

I mean, as someone who listens to vocaloid artists every so often, the merch is the real money maker.
Like @ReluctantZen@ani.social says, can confirm that Miku merch sells like crazy.
Even if I’m not familiar with any of her songs besides her cover of Ievan Polkka
Hatsune Miku is closer to a musical instrument in that many different musicians use her voice in many different kinds of songs.
Saying you are a fan of Miku (on a musical level) is roughly like saying you’re a fan of Trumpets.
I personally am into songs like Karakuri Pierrot. https://youtu.be/DDjcqu9uvUE
