Same, I’m not a fan of watching random people be tortured for fun.

In at least some of them they’re bad people being tortured in ironic ways that mirror their own crimes, like insurance claims adjusters being left at the mercy of one of their coworkers who has to choose which of them lives and which of them dies. That scene is actually one of the only clips I’ve seen from them. I’ve never watched the movies but I remember my ex sending me a clip of that scene and laughing about it.

The later films reveal the series’ villain became who he is because of a denied insurance claim. So he sets up escape rooms to teach people the value of life and friendship. Or to die in gruesome ways. Either way it was a shitty era for horror because everyone was trying to outdo each other. The first one had one of the greatest movie plot twists of all time, though. The Sixth Sense was just more memeable.
