I’ve said this previously, but I’m glad they are ending it on a high note, and not milking it with multiple seasons.
The showrunner said that, once he considered making five seasons, but he “didn’t have the bandwidth” for it, and decided just to make two instead. There were rumors that it had something to do with the budget or because of the writer strike, but aside from the delays from the writer strike, Disney was totally on board with five seasons.
Once I heard that that was the reason, I felt a lot better about there only being two seasons.
Tony was on the scriptnotes podcast a week or two ago saying that yes, the original plan was a season for each of the five years of Cassian’s life leading up to Rogue One.
But after making the first season, he realized he’d never finish at that scale, not just because of his own bandwidth or his collaborators (his brother, as well as Beau Willimon), but also because of how much time getting each season made would take. So many shows at that scale aren’t hitting a one-per-year pace.
So yeah, Tony didn’t want the next decade of his life wrapped up in this project. Who can blame him?
Is it out already? Can’t wait to watch it!
The season is going to be made of 5 (iirc) 3 episode arcs that represent a year each. Looks like they’re releasing an arch every Tuesday.
4x3
Okay, so it was originally supposed to be five total seasons. I couldn’t remember exactly. Thanks for the correction.
Yeah, what the hype?
Ohh man, the reviews for the second season are glowing. I’m trying not to get overhyped for this, but the first season was some of the best TV I’ve ever seen.
