Shoot I’m doing okay weirdly! I’m seeing Cheekface tonight, things around the home are going well, I’m worried about the eugenicists but hey I’m still able to make silly art and play video games so that’s not nothing!

Well, less good than it was. A deer got my sister in law’s car pretty good. Left headlight, bumper cover, washer fluid reservoir, left fender, and maybe the hood are toast.

No dash lights though and the car drives straight still, just hope insurance doesn’t decide to total it out.

Enjoying my time catching up on comics. Gone through like a decade’s worth of Fantastic Four in the last couple of weeks and I’ve finally reached the beginning Hickman’s run.

Had a nice chill easter weekend. Things are okay, but I feel anxious.

Last week one of my best friends told me he thought I didn’t really want to see him anymore because I don’t seem to enjoy his company as much recently. I was absolutely shook but luckily I quickly realised the issue which is that I’ve been getting complacent in our friendship.

Tbh I have to do most of the work in a lot of my friendships and I’ve been really tired and this is my one friend that actually does a lot of the emotional work himself. Which led me to take that space for granted or at least not show my appreciation. It was definitely a wake up call.

Anyway now I’m planning a bunch of stuff to do together with my bestie so we’ll be grand again in the future :)

Going great so far - as the work week has started a day late, today’s practically already Wednesday!

It’s finally warm enough to work outside most of the day, so that’s what I’m doing. Loving it. Behind the PC monitor I see mountains, a small forest and the dogs wandering around in the garden, trying to secretly dig holes where they think I can’t see them.

On a personal level, I find myself (finally) growing increasingly indifferent to various things that I can’t influence. If the world stays its current course, there’s a good chance I’ll lose some of the luxuries in my life, but in the grand scheme of things we’ll likely still be okay. Let the world burn if it wants to - I’ll save the rest of my sanity for the problems that affect me personally if and when they arise.
This mindset brings an immense sense of freedom. I’m much happier already.

Besides that it’s a pretty normal week, just busier than usual as there’s a lot to do in the garden and around the house. I still need to fix the holes in the lawn, get rid of a metric ton of weeds and paint some walls. It’s a lot of work but totally worth it.

here’s your fun fact of the day: the hierarchy of how unchecked your law enforcement is basically goes something like federal police > city police departments > rural police departments > sheriffs of any kind. apparently, while regular police are at least nominally accountable to someone higher up than them, we basically let sheriffs do whatever the fuck they want

whatever recourse you think you have against a PD usually and very explicitly will not exist against a sheriff, even if your governor is sympathetic–most states devolve an incredible amount of power to sheriffs while demanding basically no qualifications or oversight of them. also, most outspoken police you will ever hear are probably sheriffs in specific–they are hugely over-represented in politics because there’s nothing stopping them from opining on politics even where ordinary police chiefs and the like are inhibited. (also their positions are usually elected and partisan, so they are politicians)

naturally, the mixture of election and targeting by the far-right over the past 50ish years means like 85% of these guys are just total cranks now too, because almost all of them represent Republican-leaning counties

My aunt died just over a week ago and processing all the family weirdness has been a trip.

Getting super uncomfortable with the religious views on… Well everything. Even when it came to doing good deeds, it somehow ended up sounding like righteous bragging. All centered around themselves and not about the person who recently died. This big display of how good and helpful they are seems to really take away from the genuinely good deeds they are doing.

Or maybe I’m doing something wrong. Some of the more memorable good deeds I’ve done usually come with a bit heartbreak. Realizing how fortunate I am does not make me want to brag. Those memories stick for a long time too.

I’m thinking of going to a lot less family functions in the future.

Also, I’m finally at the point with my website where I can go promote it locally, the library said they’d be happy to put my poster up on the community board.

I got a bit delayed because I found out the hard way my backups weren’t complete. Fortunely I found this out on my computer and not my server. I also had an external backup so nothing important was lost, except some time. Also reworked all my backup scripts and thoroughly tested them. I feel a lot more confident about them now.
