‘Trump isn’t racist, because all other US politicians are racist aswell’ with big brain thoughts like this occupying his mind, it’s no wonder he forgets to change to his burner account, when he strokes his own ego.
: “Not everyone who disagrees with you is a nazi.”
Also
: “Yeah we’re all nazis, but that’s ok because everyone’s doing it.”
Ok, so we’re wrong because….checks note the strawman version of us is right?
“I may be sitting at a table with Nazis, but since they all think the same way that must mean they are correct” absolute galaxy brained take
it is insane to me how many people who have never studied biology but supposedly went to school for something that should have steered them away from scientific racism or biological determinism are totally willing to embrace those ideas based on nothing but how their own farts smell.
as someone who took a lot of biology, including scientific disciplines that have a direct historic association with eugenics (domestic animal genetics), it is infuriating to watch an idiot say only incorrect things and make the most racist conclusions based on things they imagine as true, completely eliding how social institutions factor heavily into social outcomes.
“I haven’t looked into this and don’t intend to, but I’m still going to base my beliefs off of my unexamined assumptions about it and expect you to find that compelling.”
I’m guilty of doing that exact same thing when I start blacking out trying to read a Matt Yglesias post and all I can do upon regaining my faculties is say “I barely remember what I read but I’m certain it’s dumb bullshit and nobody should read it.”
to be an avowed neoliberal propagandist you also must be a fascist
I have not looked into it
NO INVESTIGATION, NO RIGHT TO SPEAK
YOU MUST NOT TALK NONSENSE!
follows that up by saying he likes living in a society where such questions should not be explored and then explores those questions in an even more foolish and ignorant fashion
If you accept the premises of scientific racism, that pretty much requires you to embrace policy written by sadists in turn. Not worthwhile.
Matt Yglesias and Will Stancil trying to prove each other wrong is like that buttered toast strapped to the back of a cat thought experiment.
You could just simply not write this type of shit, but I suppose that’s a little too much to ask of certain people
“I’m just playing devil’s advocate”
Meanwhile the actual devil, disappointed in hell, is really wishing they’d knock this shit off.
Something happened in the last ten years or so, where blog comment sections turned into a big hug box. Slow Boring’s comment section is sycophantic to the extreme. Blogs articles from the 00s and 10s tended to have at least a few comments going into detail about why the article was stupid and wrong. I do think Yglesias was somewhat moderated by his commenters, and then later his colleagues pushing back on his most psycho takes. It makes me wonder about the model of having paywalled articles or podcasts will eventually just turn it into a hugbox for the paied subscribers.
i have to give this matt yglesias guy credit because he sets out a theory that racists never want to claim they are racist openly anymore but rather just believe racist things and push them without wanting the label and then he proves that by doing the exact thing himself its really quite brilliant and i have to agree with the theory based on the evidence he presents
I’m glad my dad is watching Chris hedges instead of reading this garbage
so much for the tolerant left😔
