Read up on Hunter Thompson and the Freak Party in Aspen. Part of their platform was to tear up the asphalt for the vast majority of surface streets in the city, and just replace them back with grass and have walkable spaces where cars were not welcome.

I mean they had plurality support the first year they tried it. They almost won. A lot of people think moving away from car-centric cities is a good idea. That’s true even though I agree that OP is delusional about how they propose to do it and how popular they think it would be nationwide.

Doesn’t mean anything. Trump won majority of the votes, so did Hitler, so did multiple cunts, morons, cretins, criminals, fraudsters, liars, etc - to use one word, motherfuckers. World is full of idiots. Around 40% of the population I recon although it may be more.

You simultaneously denounce the idea because it would not please a majority, while also denouncing the majority.

I’m also grieving the failure of an extremely comforting status quo, but let’s keep it clean in the chats. This person isn’t your opponent.

Nope. I denounce an idea because it is moronic. I usually don’t give much consideration to the “majority”.

                  Oh no, elitism

Knowing that the vast proportion of people are idiots is realism, not elitism. In fact it is usually idiots themselves who are blasefully ignorant about it.

The OP isn’t an idiot. There have been case studies of small communities who have done similar things successfully. In fact, Wikipedia has a list of such places.

Of course, smaller and more reasonable changes would be much more likely to succeed. What the OP posed is extreme and hyperbolic, and the exact details of enforcement don’t make a ton of sense (like… There’s no need to ban licenses if you just ban driving personal vehicles on public roads, or in sections of public roads). But I don’t know that this qualifies for this community.
