    Successful serial killers remain so by leaving a small thread of hope to their victims. Even the Nazis did this. This regime is leaving no such thing because it’s about the spectacle of sadism. They are lumbering brutes, while simultaneously being so detached that they have lost theory of basic human nature. Look at how they are doing “foreign policy”, blunt and clumsy, and now apply this to this new domestic terror regime.

    So the lib refrain of “if you fight back or defend yourself they’ll just kill you and call you a terrorist” disintegrates instantly. You are dead anyway, so go out quick and take some with you.

    And now the ICE raids are scooping up whoever is in the vicinity. At that stage they have made enemies of entire communities, giving them no hope with nothing to lose. They will shrink from any sort of organized neighboorhood militia. And if (oh noes! cries the liberal) they do martial law and the insurrection act from a coordinated act of defiance, so be it. Rip the bandaid off.

    Like everything this regime is doing fascism without the ideological base for it. They understand spectacle but are so crude in the implementation they are basically inviting a mass movement of violent resistance from a nation that, historically, is usually happy to go along with all sorts of horrors. And they failed to disarm the populace before starting this stage.

    Performed surgically and carefully (over a year or so) it would have taken no effort for this regime to fully implement unstoppable totalitarian fascism. But they are so terrible at everything, they are even fucking this up.

      To add to this, they’re maximizing the terror by making their ICE raids plain clothed, fully masked, and in unmarked cars. They often don’t identify themselves properly.and don’t bother showing a warrant, they just jump people.

      The fact that this hasn’t already resulted in someone getting shot is a miracle and it will not last.

        Exactly. it’s indistingushable from a professional criminal kidnapping team. And this is fucked (and very Amerikkkan) but once they start grabbing citizens (particularly white ones) shit is going to hit the fan. It will be like when Tom Hanks getting Covid suddenly made it “real”.

        Also I wonder if they would even get proper backup if there was armed resistance. Like, they are doing this so under the table, so “illegally” that it might be impossible to get local or federal assistance in any useful timeframe. They know they are effectively kidnapping people “illegally” so they have to move fast and break rules. It’s just as likely local police backup would open fire on them as on some kind of community militia (like 50/50 lol). So it would be risky, and they know it.

        I doubt they have federal SWAT teams or military staged and standing by. This admin is so bad at logistics I seriously doubt they have planned that far ahead. Plus they fired the logistics guys, i mean they aren’t “warfighters” after all.

        “Move fast and break things”. turns out this is a terrible way to do state violence

      Ngl I’m thankful that we got incompetent fascism that has no true ideological basis but just chauvinism, racism and cruelty which was already baked into the American zietgiest.

      What I’m honestly most worried/anxious towards is what the summer will bring and the current trump response to any type of protests, cuss that’ll be a true moment in history when the entire facade of the seperation of powers in the US crumbles and we see if Trump has successfully couped the military or if there will be a likely limited military exchange between various fractious parts, not to mention the fucking state national guards and where that whole ball of wax ends. Last but not least is there people in the military dumb/fanatic enough to go either full nuclear or allow carpet bombing runs on American soil.

        MAGA wants the cops/army to machine gun a crowd of liberal protesters so bad, and I have a sinking feeling that will happen at least before the end of this term, if not the year. Hell they might just do it themselves freikorps style. its going to be on camera though, and it will be viral and instantly memeified by the fascists. They are going to want everyone to see them or the authorities “own” the libs. Maybe they’ll even fuck that up by massacring a bunch of retirees trying to get the phones at the social security office turned back on.

          My fear is someone will embed into a peaceful boomer protest and pop off a few rounds in some direction, likely at cops, inviting return live fire into the crowd. Robert Fedvans made some ominous prediction of this based on some interaction he had on reddit. Despite our general feelings towards him, he likely has access to a wide network, and I wonder if this “reddit interaction” was actually him receiving some warnings of this possibility from friendly contacts in intelligence or noise from various fascist death cult discord servers/telegram channels. I could see one of these psuedo-MK ultra style groups groom some wanna be nazi school shooter into sacrificing his life to kick off A24 presents Civil War.

        I think a comment like this is fun to write but honestly very far from reality. I don’t think there will be protests organized in a way that would invite this sort of cartoonish state hammer at all. It’s almost like going through the motions of a descent into fascism, but not really reaching any of the dramatic milestones because there just isn’t any resistance to it, and would be fascists doing it don’t really know what to do with that. And then the object not in very much motion continues to stay not in very much motion, despite the spectacle

          My money is on, as others have stated, likely some initial stochastic terrorism from modern day brown shirts gangs that escalates allowing the need for some form of overreach (I mean Hell they had unmarked vans black bagging people in Portland in the previous presidency during the 2020 protests), all in all I expect this to be a quicker speed run but without tact just messy violence and crackdowns.

      This has been my impression of Trump for a while now. There’s no way he actually understands capitalism/imperialism otherwise he wouldn’t have defunded USAID, deport undocumented who are part of the cheap labor force, tariff allies and all other things that are counterproductive to maintaining it.
