He’s drinking beer on the couch right now…

grillman

but instead of watching cable news garbage, today, for the first time, his selection is…

Richard Wolff explaining the decline of the American empire and Trump’s role in it! CommiePOGGERS

I think I saw some Marx in his playlist too. Maybe my nudges over the years got through to him.

This must be how he felt when he watched me walk for the first time. sicko-wholesome

That’s cool. My dad is dumb as fuck. He’s basically Forrest Gump. He’s stupid as hell and everything has basically worked out for him, except he’s also bitter and angry because he has watched ten thousand hours of ranting on Fox News.

I wish she would have Wolff on her show. Her onscreen persona seems to well studied and it makes me wonder if she actually is.

Is Wolff too lib for you to enjoy? My problem with him is that he’s all Marxism and no Leninism, but I agree that he’s great for radicalizing liberals.

Wolff comes across as know-it-all. A good Marxist is humble and willing to learn, and Wolff speaks with a dogmatic kind of arrogance. At least that’s the vibe I get.

he’s all Marxism and no Leninism

That’s a good way to explain it. But even his Marxism doesn’t seem great to me. I have seen him say theoretically sloppy things like: all societies produce a surplus; in capitalism, that surplus is taken from you, and in socialism, that surplus is restored to you. In terms of Marx alone this is wrong. In the first place, humans don’t automatically work longer than necessary. Second, it fundamentally confuses material surplus and value surplus, paving the way for someone to adopt a physical quantities understanding of value theory which is ultimately what underpins the anti-Marxist critiques of people like Sraffa and Bortkiewicz.

However… these details don’t matter that much at the start of one’s radicalization. Boomers are often used to receiving information from a paternal authority, so the traits I described above actually would make Wolff appealing to someone seeking that manner of explanation.
