    Hehe. I recently asked some flatmates friend (who had those shoes) what he thinks might be the meaning behind so many young, mostly hippyesque, anti-violence, progressive etc. people rocking those martial-ass doc martins.

    He said “no meaning I just like the looks” and was low-key pissed. I still can’t believe him even though I have a hard time coming up with a coherent analysis. Anyone?

      An approach to analysis could be looking at the lefts stands toward the dichotomy of military and militia. Because you might find we like one and not the other, and their aesthetics are often similar. For the shoes especially there can also be the form follows function argument.

      Also Rock/ Emo (scene) aesthetics filtered through 1-4 decades of time and as such fashion cycles probably factor into it.

      All of this is more explaining why the might like the look than explaining why they wear the shoes. Their reason to wear is they like how it looks (on them) genuinely, and I’m trying to explain why they like how it looks.

      And their reaction is because Aesthetics and their origins can divorce over time or through a change in context.

      Um mal ganz frei zu über-analysieren.

        Hmja kein schlechter nimm. Form folgt funktion kann ich mir kaum vorstellen bei den klobigen Klötzen, die auch im Sommer gesteint werden.

        Das Milizargument find ich aber gut, beißt sich nur damit dass das nicht nur linksradikale, sondern auch Hippies (haben wir dafür ne Zange?) tragen.

        Ich hätte sonst noch die Überanalyse dass es vielleicht ähnlich gelagert ist wie (bei meiner Interpretation von) GuteAlteRosinenundErdnüsseKern (gorpcore): Gegen die soziale Kälte wird eine Ausrüstungs- und Stärkehaltung eingenommen, materialisiert durch Hochtechnik Kleidung. Diese schützt natürlich eigentlich nur vor physischen (wetter) Härten, aber der Übersprung ist fürs Gefühl kein Problem.

        Ähnlich vielleicht Hippies, GFK-Leute, Softies, die ja trotzdem ihre Kämpfe führen mit den Schuhen. Die tragen dann halt Kriegskleidung, nur eben für den äußerlich weichen, aber innerlich auch manchmal harten Kampf im Diskurs.

        Der Punk-Stil hat anarchische Wurzeln und ist eng mit militantem Antifaschismus und industrieller Arbeitskleidung verbunden. Docs sind coole Schuhe, die man in der Fabrik tragen oder mit denen man einen Nazi niedermachen kann.
