It’s been a while since we last heard about Bungie’s new ‘Marathon’ extraction shooter, but it’s suddenly now reappeared with a new teaser trailer - revealing that a full gameplay reveal showcase will be taking place this Saturday.

Specifically, Marathon’s gameplay reveal is set for April 12th at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST. You’ll be able to watch the full thing on Twitch, and we’ll be recapping it here at Pure Xbox ASAP after the event as well.

As a reminder, here’s what Bungie says about Marathon:

Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter and the first completely new project from Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, in more than a decade. Set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments. While exploring the lost colony that once inhabited the surface, players will search for valuable loot including new weapons and gear.

Bungie is obviously a PlayStation-owned studio these days, so there’s been some debate about whether Marathon will launch on Xbox, but it’s once again been mentioned as an Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S game this week.

All that’s left is to see what Bungie has in store for us - here’s hoping it’s going to be as good as Halo / Destiny!

While it’s nice to see the return of Marathon as a universe, I don’t think this is the right way to do it. Yet another extraction shooter feels like a cynical cash grab, and I suspect it won’t fare well in an overcrowded market.

I dropped it like it was hot when they removed 1/2 the game. Frankly, as a Linux player, you aren’t missing much.

The problem was Bungie never could decide what kind of game it was supposed to be. Did they want a plot driven FPS adventure game that could be played solo or with friends, or did they want a story free F2P PvP shooter funded by cosmetics?

In my mind, they should have split the game in two: A paid story game with missions and what not, and a F2P PvP game with all the bogus currencies and cosmetics.

Allow players to use the same characters in either, balance the sandboxes separately, make money selling story missions quarterly in one and make money selling funny hats in the other.

Sad to see the Marathon name being zombified for another wealth-extraction “game” from Microsoft Sony. Excuse me for getting my evil megacorps confused. I forgot that after they made the power armor space combat game, MS bought them to make a power armor space combat game, but then they went independent again to make the power armor space combat game, before being bought by Sony to make a power armor space combat game.

Bungie is literally owned by Sony and the undoubtedly shitty “game” has been announced as multi-platform.

I hope this game dies in a month.

I wouldn’t touch a PvEvP Looter Extraction game with a 10 mile pole, regardless of if it is named Marathon or not. That genre of games attracts the absolute worst, peak toxic playerbase of any other genre. And I play Dead By Daylight. That should be saying something.

What’s sad is they are butchering their original game from 1994 with the same name. No one is creative anymore. And a pvpve extraction shooter, which out of the other 50000 of them out there, their playerbase has been declined almost as fast as the USA stock market.
