You need to change the format of the links for them to work for people on other instances: the link needs to be only /c/communityname@lemmynsfw.com, I think. Testing that theory:

For some reason the autofill function in Lemmy does not do links this way automatically

If you’re sure you enabled Show NSFW in your settings, it could just be that your instance didn’t want to backfill older posts. No idea if it tries to do so when you visit a previously unvisited community for the first time.
Edit: Of course if you’re visitng without being logged in, it won’t show anything. No idea why Lemmy does it that way.
I see, I assumed that the ! links would take me to the community via my instance, but they actually just take me directly to the other server.
They would if formatted a little differently. Testing format /c/communityname@lemmynsfw.com:

You need to visit from lemmy.world. If you just open in a new tab or whatever it won’t “transfer” your account over. The easiest way you can do that is to throw those links into the search box in lemmy.world and wait for it to pop up with a link there.
Is that specific to lemmynsfw.com? I haven’t had any issues opening links from the front page in other instances. Or is this because the links are in a comment? Because even if I click on one of those to open in this tab, it still has the same issue.
You can’t go to lemmynsfw.com and click subscribe because you don’t have an account here. You need to click the subscribe button on your local server (lemmy.world). It’s specific to nsfw communities. You can try https://lemmy.world/c/porn@lemmynsfw.com if you want to subscribe, or use the search bar and search for !porn@lemmynsfw.com (or any other community you like).
Because of the way Lemmy works, you won’t see any comments on posts older than when the first person on your instance subscribed. So, if you’re the first person on your community to subscribe to a particular “foreign” community it may seem like the community is rather dead at first glance.
Is there a way to make it load older posts? Some of the ones I go into have literally nothing.

But the only communities I see here are explicit, and I’m not going to be submitting to these explicit instances/communities.

It’s posted in our rules that if you’re a moderator that just created another channel that you’re aren’t allowed to post a channel you just created in our channels, this isn’t a competition. We would prefer if users engaged with our posts differently, discussion, source, similar photos,etc. Promotion is allowed for OC content creators. You created multiple of the same JAV instances. We currently have an issue here where we have many people sub and lurking but not posting, only a few key people have been posting here which is a bit of shame. The community should focus on posting content on channels instead of joining and making 20 different new channels. I personally think a cap needs to be added to maybe 5-6 max channel creations per user, until the community at least establish itself. I don’t care that you have other channels but you seems to be downvoting all our post, taking it extremely personally that your comment was removed and not reading the rules on channels you visit. Which is why your comment was removedin the first place. Please read our rules next time and feel free to post anything you please as long as it follows the guidelines of the channel your visiting. Not comment in a spam like fashion on multiple post to join your newly created channel. You also have the ability to cross post if you feel like it’s niche that fits your channel or another channel you enjoy. Thank you for your participation in this community, and again this ain’t a competition, the real competition is with reddit.

Yes they can. I made the same expierence and so I created an account on another instance.
I believe it’s only if they decide to defederate the instance, but I am unsure.
