I wanted to like it. I expected to like it. One or two of the guests have been pretty funny, but most of them have not, and the Establishment have been especially unfunny, particularly Rachel Coster, who is just straight-up obnoxious.
There’s a lot of loud shouting. A lot of nonsensical off-topic comments. Way too many references that seem hyper-specific to America or even New York City. The latter of those might play well in the room of the NY standup scene, but it was a terrible idea for a show being designed to be broadcast around the world on Nebula.
idk maybe it’s an American vs non-American humour thing?
Also, just a minor nitpick, but in the intro, the host throws his coat back, as though onto a coat rack, except we can see there’s no coat rack. Then in the next shot, he’s walking away from where that was and we can see the floor where it should have landed. But there’s no coat. It’s a minor continuity error, but mainly it would have a been more amusing little bit of meta humour if you did see the coat.
I couldn’t even get through Bens part. Wanted to check other episodes at some point, but so far I didn’t really have much interest.
it’s something that completely relies on the improv skills of the people involved. I’m not sure they selected the right ones, from what I have seen so far
I quite enjoyed a couple of episodes. I’m not from the US, and didn’t find too many to be too US centric. But yeah, a few of the jokes and hosts/abolishers were not that funny unfortunately.
If you like the concept, search for Room 101 and go wild
