I was at the protest (there was a Palestine protest in DC the same day, stumbled upon the lib one on accident)

I saw pro USAID posters, pro NATO, pro Ukraine, pro Kamala, so much #resist and #vote bullshit too.

The demographic was also just old women with witty signs. I saw one lib wearing a sign that had a QR code titled “Anti-Trump Limericks (18+)”.

Meanwhile the pro-Palestine protest had demographics from all over, PSL ran the show. Multiple guest speakers, we walked to the ICE building and DHS cars parked outside were vandalized and their tired were slashed.

Just two completely different movements and I don’t think the libs will ever be radicalized enough to a point we could rely on them for anything.

“orange man bad” is fairly accurate as a political hueristic, but not nearly as accurate as “United States bad”

I’m allowed a little sneering when a 1/3rd of the signs mention Ukraine or NATO but I honked my horn and waved like a good little liberal

On Bluesky in general I’ve seen two kinds of popular posts on the “hands off” protests.

    1. The vast majority of posts are cheering the protestors - no matter matter how small the protests were. Like “Look at these 50 protestors in this deep red Wyoming county!”

    2. There’s been some punching left.

I don’t remember a single post stressing solidarity. I can’t remember a single post attacking the republicans. If there was snark or sarcasm in the comment - it was punching left.

    Hands Off protests

The Hands Off protests launched across the United States on Saturday, April 5, 2025, in what is currently the largest one-day, nationwide display of public resistance against the second administration of President Donald Trump.

I don’t follow anybody at Bluesky - I use raw feeds instead. After the election - the site exploded in size. I think I’ve seen three posts by @golikehellmachine in total this year. The site is at ~40M now. Before the election it was small and niche. @golikehellmachine was a top poster and his insufferable libposting was all over my feeds. I have to wonder if he talks like he posts.

    liberal theory:

    “orange man bad”

    communist theory:

A Marxist understanding of capitalism leads to anti-imperialism. Anti-imperialism is understood by detractors as a simple rhetorical dressing over simplistic heuristics like “reflexive anti-americanism,” “history repeats itself,” and “the military-industrial complex needs contracts,” but all of these are reductive. Marxists understand that human political leadership in the imperial periphery, whether enlightened or tyrannical, will only be antagonized by empire for one single possible reason: it is getting in the way of market penetration.

It’s interesting how different these experiences are. I went to the one in my town which was pretty much ran by PSL and Trans activists groups. It was nice seeing even the lib moms cheering on to protect trans kids and stopping the genocide. Not to mention there was actually some good organizing efforts going on to show people how to get more involved and getting people to take direct action in our community.
