For this Special Thursday Cinema Night, first up is Broker (2022), a Korean crime comedy-drama from renowned Japanese auteur Hirokazu Horeeda, the guy behind Shoplifters (2018), Nobody Knows (2004), and Monster (2023), all of which we previously watched. It follows a man and wife who steal a baby from a baby-box facility, intending to sell him to another family for profit. The police are on the case, and both laughs and tearjerking ensue. Great reviews for this, so let’s check it out.

After that is The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947), a fantasy-romance about a widow (Gene Tierney) who moves into a new home, only to find it haunted by a ghost (Rex Harrison) of a sea captain, who turns out to be rather handsome, actually. Will love bloom even across the boundary of death? I guess we’ll find out. Director is Joseph L. Mankiewicz, who is best-known for the Best Picture winner All About Eve (1950); this is considered one of his best films, and a classic of 1940s Hollywood.
