Very bad. It is now a fascist hellhole where religious minorities and dissent are actively persecuted.
Also, there seems to be clashes between HTS(the “moderate” rebels according to the shit west) and Hezbollah in the border with Lebanon.
I recently read that HTS doesn’t even control most of the territory, and there are now a whole bunch of militant groups that are fighting each other.
The contradiction now is between Golani and his own base. Golani is trying to play a good neoliberal puppet for his international allies. That means mass privatization but also not doing ethnic/religious killings and not enforcing sharia, which his base wants to do.
The result is there has been mass killings of Alawites and Golani just labels them Assad Loyalists so the west can look the other way. I haven’t heard much about the other ethnic groups.
The question of sharia and actually implementing an Islamist regime or sharia law is still in question last I checked.
Idk what he’ll do about the SDF/YPG, probably whatever Turkey wants.
Didn’t Golani say he was imnplementing Sharia law before?
