Such graph is worth mentioning because David Noboa is campaigning on a promise to reduce crimes, e.g. by putting soldiers in the streets(, the “plan Phoenix”, inspired by N.Bukele in el Salvador, and relying on the israeli prison’s technology).
He cut off the social programs that were a part of the leftist policy against criminality, and of course he’s in favor of longer sentences and more repression as the only option against crimes, like most people from the right(, while the left fight both the causes and consequences, as R.Correa did, « violence is the refuge of incompetence »).
As usual, he also wants to cut taxes to attract foreign companies, etc.
However, unusually enough, the right all over the world now wants to put tariffs, in his case on Mexico’s importations.
That’s a noticeable change because neoliberals have fought tariffs for decades, and the w.t.o. did what it could to prevent the global South from putting them in place, so that’s interesting.

- In 2021, A.Arauz won 33% against 20% in the first round, yet lost 47% against 53% in the second round ;
- In the anticipated elections of 2023, L.Gonzáles won 33% against 23% in the first round, yet lost at 48% against 52% in the second round. So we’ll see tomorrow if she won the first round once again.

Yeah, because of droughts and an over-reliance on hydroelectricity(, ~75%,) apparently, which sometimes lead to 14h/day of power cuts.
Red also produced a 3mn video on this subject which stated that Ecuador will have the lowest growth of all south american countries while Venezuela will have the highest(, 9%!), which is very nice for them, finally.If it was Cuba suffering these power cuts, we would me flooded with media about it, but since it’s an pro-US lackey we get no coverage.
Over reliance on hydro? That’s really not the full story. Ecuador has back up diesel/gas generators for such possibilities of drought but unfortunately 8 years of right wing government left the backups rusty and inoperable. Electric demand has grown in the last 8 years but there’s been zero investment in new capacity.
Luisa will win the second round. Noboa won with 52 vs 48% last time. His year and a half of government has been a disaster, he’s lost votes and Luisa has only gone up.

I very much like Rafael Correa, Andrés Arauz, and her as well of course, and can’t understand how Lenín Moreno managed to accomplish such a betrayal, and then subsequent presidents had bad ratings, i may be falsely oversimplifying by accusing the narrative/‘capitalist-owned medias’, w/e 🤷They’re not MLs, at best they’re Marxist informed sucdems. But they did a decent job of improving material conditions for the poor, poverty and infant malnutrition went down under Correa’s administration, he took national control of the oil, he built highways and schools and hospitals, minimum wage tripled, it was a good time for 98% of Ecuadorians, even those who didn’t like him benefited.
Unfortunately Correa is fucking shit up right now. Iza was making strong signals he’d endorse Luisa and then Rafael said some dumb shit on Twitter and put salt into some old wounds. Fuck knows what’s going to happen now. If Luisa doesn’t fix this today or tomorrow we probably going to lose. Even if we somehow win we need Pachakutic to govern in the Assemblea. So pissed right now.
