idk how to be sensitive wording this so im gonna put it in a spoiler warning:

    amerikkkan racism

when did european jews become white in america? like, european jews are considered white here outside of the worst 4chan groypers and (i think) have been since at least the end of ww2, and i suspect even before then, if almost definitely considered a “lesser” form of white à la the italians, irish, etc. my belief in this ultimately comes from the nazis being unable to actually wield a significant amount of political power as compared to the democrats. like, the pioneer settler colony that was already the strongest or 2nd strongest country in the world didnt immediately jump on hyper-exploiting and genociding a “non-white” population even with significant foreign backing? like, amerikkka had a significant nazi presence by ww2 but they werent really ever in danger of taking control at the time (i.e.e business plot, which was well before the nazis had consolidated power), it just doesnt add up to me if european jews werent already well on their to being seen as white, hell germans may have faced more state repression from the United States during WW1, WW2, and especially after, just based on the nigh complete eradication of germanic languages the US, although this also applies to yiddish too i assume so i’m not sure based off what little internet searching im willing to do at this time of night

Ashkenazi Jews were definitely fully white by the 90s that’s a hard point, I think most country club bans were overturned in the late 80s, Seinfeld was the most successful show on tv and everyone was living in the end of history where there wasn’t anything silly like racism to light skinned minorities.

Before then it was a process. You might have a Jewish doctor or lawyer, but there were degrees of othering and exclusion.

There’s an episode of Golden Girls where all of the ladies and their dates were going to a country club to eat in the club restaurant, and the friend who invited them—and who is a member of the club—pulled Dorothy to the side and said they can’t go because the date Sophia was bringing is Jewish. So it was still a thing in the late '80’s. But I can see it being on the way out at this point; the audience gave a big cheer when she told the friend to leave and that their friendship was over.
