in the first few seconds they called the USSR an empire.

Sad. It doesn’t inspire confidence in someone’s analysis of the present or predictions for the future if they can’t even get history right.
I don’t know if this is the case for that particular video, but to make a more general point on it, I do get the sense that some people use the term “empire” in a capacity similar to that parody line about socialism and communism: “Socialism is when the government does things. And when the government does a whole lot of things, it’s communism.”
And then for imperialism it’s something like: “Imperialism is when a country is influential and large. And the more influential and large it is, the more imperialist it is.”
Like this theme of not engaging with how the mechanics of power are used and for what purpose. If you just went by a vague notion of size and influence, you’d end up saying China is “imperialist”. And yet, they are setting up mutually beneficial relationships, not predatory exploitative ones, so it’s very different from the nature of the US.
don’t really hang around breadtube or adjacent but * squints really hard * the channel name is uncivilized… is this an anti-civ channel???
edit: ok they just look like the rest of breadtube and not like rando ‘degrowth solarpunk’. bleh
edit edit: im still unconvinced that breadtube (at large)(especially relatively well-produced videos like the ones on this channel) aren’t controlled opposition that at its core cannot/will not divest from anti-communism
