It’s funny, I BARELY see this kind of propaganda from Russian troops in Ukraine. Does anybody know if they do it too? The Ukranians do plenty of it.
I’ve seen a fair amount of Russian troops with kittens/cats. I don’t think it’s propaganda though. It’s a very different type of war with static positions that get fortified. Even the stuff from the soldiers from the ukraine probably has organic elements.
Soldiers spend time in a place that had/has people and an animal presence. Somebody finds a stray in need of care and brings the new friend to their station after establishing a bond with kindness in situation the animal isn’t equipped to understand and/or food. It’s a tale as old as war.
Doesn’t even have to be domestic. There’s that famous artillery bear. I also read a book that claimed an officer got fragged in Vietnam because he made a marine give up an orphaned tiger cub he took back to the FOB.
I have communicated to my people that if I die before my dog, he must be allowed to see my corpse. They mourne and feel abandoned if you just disappear, sometimes for the rest of their lives.
I know this puppy is probably too young to have bonded to that extent, but I’m not trying to make a reddit-brained observation about this. What I’m thinking is, yeah, cute puppy, but you murdered and/or displaced its family and same for untold numbers of other dogs, many of which will be bonded to people.
If you have more empathy for dogs than humans, for whatever reason, then even this propaganda should look as fucking miserable as a shellshocked human child cowering under a blanket as the murderers “save” it from their own irreversible atrocities.
