There’s no posting to your own profile here on Lemmy, so I hope it’s alright that I use this space to just dump some shit that no one cares about.

I was going to migrate to mbin or somewhere with more features than base Lemmy, and I also wanted to be able to see downvotes, but I’ve decided that in spite of those things, I think I’ll stick around for a while.

As far as Lemmy forks go, I think I’m just going to keep an eye on them for a while until they’re a little further along in development and have more app support. I’m keeping an eye on PieFed in particular but for now, while I’m still new here, I think I’m going to stick with base Lemmy for at least my first year.

As far as downvotes go, I have realised that I just do not care anymore. And I like not caring.

So I can live with just not seeing downvotes anywhere in exchange for a good local feed that can teach me and keep me sane in these fucked up times ahead. And honestly, I’ve noticed that I even like the ‘All’ feed better here than when I was on world.

    Ok so update to this. While I still wait a little longer to see if mbin and piefed app options improve and increase, I’m actually thinking of instance hopping again. And retiring my username. Not to run away from anything here but it’s time for an update after something like 8 years. I’ll probably never close this account though and likely update my screen name here.

    I’m honestly thinking of taking this chance to sign up on some smol instance that doesn’t de-federate from anything (as long as it isn’t de-federated by Blåhaj), so that I can see what the underbelly of this place really looks like and do my own blocking from there. But if that experience turns out too cursed, I’ll probably park on dbzero.

    I actually am interested in seeing downvotes I think. And seeing as I’m not going to just be discussing exclusively Blåhaj-centric subjects, I think maybe it’s fair to be open to being downvoted. I’m sure I deserve it sometimes anyway.

    Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. No time or date in mind yet and I am lazy, so we’ll see.

    Different instances have different rules regarding downvotes. Blahaj disabled them due to brigading I’ve been told - which is something that hasdn’t occurred to me before. But, yeah, downvotes aren’t something to lose sleep over; on a personal level, but it’s a different story if they are used to stifle your instance’s profile.

      Yeah I definitely understand why Blåhaj has them disabled. From what I’ve gathered since I’ve been here, there definitely are people here on Lemmy that stick their noses in and downvote everything in discussions where they don’t belong.

      The only pity is that it’s an all or nothing deal. There’s no way for an instance or individual community to disable downvotes alone. If you’re signed up on Blåhaj, they’re disabled everywhere, including communities in world or whenever that they’re normally enabled. Which has its downsides. I don’t want to go around downvoting things but it can be nice to see which way the general public is voting on things.
