They’re originally from a small town outside of Houston called Needville, but it’s still just a 30-45 minute drive to be in the middle of Houston so not exactly “rural” compared to most of TX. Houston has tons of these little white flight towns around it

Youre intuition is right, France is extremely centralised, but you have only 2m living in Paris itself, on a population of 75m. It’s one ultra rich city holding absolute power over the rest of the vast majority of the country. Even people who live in the “Île de France” (approx 12m people) aren’t really much better in terms of everything. France is so imperialist that even internally they have a core/periphery dynamic

I didn’t like being lectured about “working class solidarity” from kids who went to private schools or who’s parents paid their tuition while I grew up in a trailer and was using FAFSA to pay for my community college classes. I do well for myself now and I’m able to support myself but seriously wish people would move on and stop acting like this at like 30 years old
I’m not going to lie and pretend like I wasn’t a selfish asshole at 19-20 years old because of course I was. Being so young thrust into the spotlight with a large platform without much familial support is really hard! You have to adjust and grow. I’m glad I did and realized communism is a mental illness!
