It’s too bad the Democratic Party doesn’t have a Party Whip whose job it is to force legislators to follow the party line or face consequences. Oh, they do, but they only use it on the progressive wing because the DNC doesn’t want to do anything to upset the donor class?

Sinema and Machin killed a lot of his ideas in the Senate.

The way Obama fucked up his super majorities by letting f-ing Joe Lieberman filibuster the public option is a real shame.

american liberals love to be like “ugh corporate money has corrupted the democratic process and our elected officials are bought and sold by the board members that really write policy… except for my democrat, who loves me and kisses me on the lips every night before bed”

it’s just, like it’s kind of like they mostly know what’s going on and they’re mad about it, and then somehow their conclusion is “okay we have to keep this thing going as long as possible”

"We must maintain at all times 50% of the house minimum, 60% of the senate minimum, actually make it 62% to compensate for democrats who aren’t apparently actually democrats, and the presidency.

And even if we get some laws passed despite gerrymandered representative districts and the entire existence of THE SENATE as a concept, well, SCOTUS will just wand-waive away all of that legislation, agreed upon by about 60% of the legislature and the president.

What can we do about SCOTUS? Nothing. That would be anti institutional!

What can we do about the existence of the senate and states which were designed to be and objectively are anti democratic in nature? Nothing. Do you not respect the constitution and institutions!?"

        Repeat until we die

Ya it’s so weird how there’s always just one or two darn senators that stop all the good things that the Democrats totally definitely want to do. So weird that it keeps happening.

Oh no did mean old Sinema and Manchin stop all the good stuff? Wow how inconvenient! So terrible! And the parliamentarian! Don’t get me started on the parliamentarian! Old Joe really does want to do good, but he’s just completely powerless due to these two incredibly inconvenient people that just started kicking up trouble. Well nothing we can do but increase cops budgets by billions, arm Nazis, ban cheap solar and EVs, expand fracking and fund genocide. Wish it could be otherwise but that’s just how it is due to Sinema and Manchin and that mean old parliamentarian. Poor Joe

it’s because he doesn’t have a plan and doesn’t want to. The closest thing they’ll ever see to a tax increase from him is him begging for donations

Sure he can, the powers of the presidency are whatever the president feels like they are. He could have Trump, any intransigent Congress members, and the entire Supreme Court executed by drone strike if he wanted to.

Libs will simultaneously hold the following opinions:

“Trump will destroy democracy by welding the powerful tools he has as president”

“Biden really can’t do all the things he promised because the president actually isn’t that powerful”

In England, at this day, if elections were open to all classes of people, the property of the landed proprietors would be insecure. An agrarian law would soon take place. If these observations be just, our government ought to secure the permanent interests of the country against innovation. Landholders ought to have a share in the government, to support these invaluable interests and to balance and check the other. They ought to be so constituted as to protect the minority of the opulent against the majority. The senate, therefore, ought to be this body; and to answer these purposes, they ought to have permanency and stability.

      —James Madison
