You are correct. It IS sympathy. Sympathy acknowledges the situation. Empathy acknowledges their feelings, more like “I can imagine how this situation makes you feel.”

I’d imagine empathy being that they would emulate the feelings of those like the woman. I fully expected him to get into a panic and start crying.

Let’s call Captain Hindsight next, I am sure he will have some good ideas.

        That’s Captain Obvious.

Captain Hindsight would point out leaving your scented candle burning unattended in the bathroom was a bad idea, or something like that.

        Slightly different.

Same. The preview works but when it loads fully it’s just broken. I’m using the connect app but it’s probably some buggy metadata.

Nah, Empathy Man would make sure the building is up to fire code and has fire escapes so the kid has less chances of getting stuck in that situation

They’re only saying that because your suggestions aren’t good enough. Keep trying to solve their problems, you’ll get it eventually.

It also might be he’s not assertive enough. It’s not enough to tell them what to do, you also have to pressure them constantly to take your advice.

tbh the only reason I told my girlfriend to stop giving me advice when I’m upset is that she sucks at it. She only gives me obvious advice I already thought of and it’s really annoying.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

The rules are simple:

  • The post can be a single image, an image gallery, or a link to a specific comic hosted on another site (the author’s website, for instance).
  • The comic must be a complete story.
  • If it is an external link, it must be to a specific story, not to the root of the site.
  • You may post comics from others or your own.
  • If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
  • The comic can be in any language, but if it’s not in English, OP must include an English translation in the post’s ‘body’ field (note: you don’t need to select a specific language when posting a comic).
  • Politeness.
  • Adult content is not allowed. This community aims to be fun for people of all ages.
