      It’s straight up a meme now. Everyone laughs at “us invade scalp for oil” so people fill the gap by “defying the orthodoxy” and claiming otherwise

    The joke from when I was in the army at that time was that the name of the operation originally was Operation Iraqi Liberation but somebody caught on fast enough that the acronym being OIL was just too on the nose.

    I honestly don’t know if that was purely a joke or if there was any truth to it.
