Article says that liberal Democrats are the most supportive of giving more funding to Ukraine.

    Pink imperialism, I see.

Maybe we should sanction America so Americans will rise up and demand their government changes… I mean, that’s how it works, right? Surely Putin will be murdered by angry, starving Russians any day now

If Americans held themselves to the same standards by which they judge other countries, then they’d have couped themselves several hundred times by now.

A bigger worry across partisan lines in the new poll is that the war will continue without a resolution for a long time. Nearly 8 in 10 are worried about that, including 82% of Democrats, 75% of independents and 73% of Republicans.

The best anti-war line to take is “this stalemate will go on indefinitely, either it ends in a ceasefire and negotiated peace now or after countless more people die.” Most Americans already agree with the first half, and the last half follows logically. It also brings out the neolib psychos who talk about the ROI of marching Ukrainians into artillery fire.

Obviously you can oppose the war (especially the NATO role in it) for a hundred reasons, but we already have an in with this one.

When any mention of peace makes you a Putinist, obvious thing is they are out for blood.

Reality is war will go on as long as people are making profit. Even those 80% are aware of it and respond accordingly they don’t like the war, but reality is they support it and you can see it in their politics, elections but also just talking with them.

    Unfortunately:

What do our findings say about democracy in America? They certainly constitute troubling news for advocates of “populistic” democracy, who want governments to respond primarily or exclusively to the policy preferences of their citizens. In the United States, our findings indicate, the majority does not rule—at least not in the causal sense of actually determining policy outcomes. When a majority of citizens disagrees with economic elites or with organized interests, they generally lose. Moreover, because of the strong status quo bias built into the U.S. political system, even when fairly large majorities of Americans favor policy change, they generally do not get it.

I love how they all got trained up to scream Russian propaganda when faced with anything that goes against the war narrative, and now they’re at the point where they’re rejecting what their own propaganda outlets say. We live in amazing times.

I’m genuinely surprised that we haven’t heard Zelensky or some other Ukrainian big wig insult all the Americans who don’t want to contribute yet. That’s what I thought was going to cause support to erode.

I have only met one person IRL that cared about the war in any real way other than indifference and they had gobbled up the “Russia bad” narrative. I then proceeded to shit on every argument they had till they just stopped talking and changed the subject because they have no actual rebuttal.

    US aid for Ukraine

Isn’t it loan and Ukraine is in huge debt right now? Calling it “aid” is understandable for mass media, but in reality it is just a bank loan.

I think in the year and a half this has been going on, I am yet to find more than one person IRL who actually cares. Most people don’t go any further than a ‘yeah, Ukraine’ comment. But how could you care when your own groceries have increased 40-50% in price and you can’t afford to warm your house.
