inevitably lead to a clash with other nations, which would not accept Russian tanks on their borders

When we don’t want foreign tanks on our borders, it’s good. When they don’t want it, it’s bad.

    What was it?

Our legitimate security perimeter buffer zone of 1500 KMs

Their illegitimate war of aggression on their border 850 KMs from their capital city

Over 10000 civilians have been killed because it couldn’t be done sooner, but I really hope this and France’s position will finally mean the end of this cursed war. This is obviously good news and I’m grateful to Italy but it’s difficult not to be angry and bitter with the state of the world thinking about how easily it could’ve been avoided or stopped at any point along the way.

The fact that the west dragged this out for two years is a crime against humanity.

Jesus Christ, it’s like saying WW2 wouldn’t have had to drag on as long as it did because all Allied countries could have just surrendered to Hitler.

No need to deal with those redditor commenters ruining everyone’s day, report them so we can ban and prevent them treating others in the same way.

Would Italy do the same if their land was being stolen?

Well, they’re doing it, and there are (at least, that we know of) 8 US military bases and over 11k US military personnel on Italian soil, they killed civilians with impunity more than one time.

      For example: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_Cavalese_cable_car_crash

They’re usually tried in US courts where they’re handed a slap on the wrist and Italian courts can’t do anything about it.

If they were losing as badly as Ukraine, probably.

I would hardly call it “losing badly” when Ukraine, despite months of being deprived of U.S aid and rationing their ammunition, is still preventing any major breakthrough, still holding the vast majority of country’s territory and inflicting major casualties for every inch of land Russia manages to grab. This war is far from over.

The headline is a bit misleading. The article elaborates some, for example:

In other remarks, Crosetto said that if Russian troops were to occupy Kyiv, it would “inevitably lead to a clash with other nations, which would not accept Russian tanks on their borders.”

European nations have been voicing the need of peace from the beginning, it’s just that the negotiating third parties can’t get Russia to participate in a dialogue. Which leads to desperate stuff like France asking for China to do their part (desperate because they’d need some unlikely deal incentive to flip).

the negotiating third parties can’t get Russia to participate in a dialogue

Did my brain just make shit up or didn’t they nearly get to peace very early on1? Or are you saying that after Russia participated in a dialogue and Ukraine pulled out, they haven’t been willing to participate in any new talks?

I was thinking of that situation as well, and I remember there was some foul play around that plan. The gist might have been that the Russian envoy did appear at the location but wouldn’t negotiate. Time will tell if we ever find out the truth.
