A Cheshire, England, woman rescued what she believed to be an abandoned baby hedgehog and took it to a local animal hospital, where veterinarians told her she had actually rescued the pom pom from a beanie hat.

      Sadly, the original hat had long since abandoned the pompom, and it is unlikely to survive otherwise.

        This particular species of hat, Nogginus warmus, is able to shed its pom in times of danger. A new one will grow in its place soon after.
