What really pissed me off about this movie was that they brought Bob Hoskins back to life and then killed him again to make this movie.
Plus the de-aging tech they used on Jon Lenguizamo was terrible and looked totally fake
It was actually Daniel Day-Lewis method-acting as Bob Hoskins playing Mario; when the cameras weren’t rolling, everybody had to address him as Bob and he had lots of great anecdotes about Roger Rabbit.

I think the character was always meant to be an Italian plumber living in Brooklyn, the original movie just went along with it
