The real scandal is how Gates wife divorced him after she found out about all of those trips to Epstein’s island.

But we already knew that before the recent disclosures

My whole childhood the Gates was touted as this super altruistic, good rich person who was all about charity. It was only after I found out about the whole Oxford vaccine thing (indenting my aside/rant)

Gate’s urged Oxford to exclusively allow AstraZeneca the rights to their vaccine “rather than sticking to the university’s own guidance that any deal it makes include non-exclusive and royalty-free licensing”, a deal with no guarantee of accessibility or affordability. Given that the vast majority of the funding of this vaccine was public funds…fuck that.

that I found out that the Foundation was always just a way to rehabilitate an image of ruthlessness I never knew he had. I guess it worked, given how he was discussed when I was growing up, but hopefully he won’t be able to do it again.

Gates has always been a piece of shit and I hate how he became the poster boy of Reddit because he set up a tax-beneficial charity to clean up his image. I got doxxed for bringing it up in one of his AMAs.

Is it better that he gave money to charity than for him not to? Yeah, sure. But I won’t be fooled into thinking he’s a great guy. He’s a piece of shit with a great PR team. The world would be better without his shitty monopoly.

Two relevant quotes from this articlePaywalled link, I’m afraid

A summary of the book the author (Dr Linsey McGoey) wrote on the subject: “billionaires who make their fortunes through corporate practices that undercut workers and deepen inequality — like corporate tax avoidance, insufficient sick pay and the immoral gap in pay between executives and low-paid workers — are not the solution to problems they generate.”

“Asking Bill Gates to fix inequality is like asking an arsonist to hose down your house after he just set it on fire. Philanthropists might have the deep pockets to fund the fire engine and water hose, but the money is coming from making our houses unlivable in the first place.”
